0 Vertical Short Tube Medium size short rotating base for standing rods with curved butts. It has a 2 inch OD x 6-1/2 inch long tube. Without a doubt, our rotating base rod rest is the best rest for the serious sportsman. Primarily designed to be used with a bent butt, the unique rotating base allows the rod butt to rotate in the rod rest when lateral pressure is applied to the rod tip. This is an indispensable tool, especially important in fishing for giant bluefin tuna, where reel drags in the neighborhood of 60 pounds are frequently used and can result in tremendous forces being applied to the rod rest pin. Not only does this make sheared rod rest pins a thing of the past, but more importantly, it allows the rod tip to follow the fish. This reduces the possibility of line fraying and increased drag as the line flows laterally off the roller tip instead of over the roller. The rod is also more easily removed from the holder since it is not locked onto a rigid pin. The swivel base holder functions as a standard rod holder when used with straight stop rods. Straight stop rods can be manually turned so the line stays on the tip roller. The amount of torque required to turn the swivel is set by adjusting the pressure on two nylon drag washers with a 1/2-inch stainless steel lock nut on the bottom of the rod holder.
